Position Description

General Purpose:

Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the daily activities of nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.

Essential Duties:

  • Administrative: Supervise nursing assistants, review and update policies, coordinate nursing services, and participate in quality assurance programs.
  • Documentation: Complete and file forms and records, transcribe medical orders, and maintain detailed nursing notes.
  • Medication Administration: Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician, ensure adequate supply of medications and equipment.
  • Personnel Functions: Evaluate employee performance, develop work assignments, and provide leadership to nursing staff.
  • Nursing Care: Inform staff of new admissions, conduct rounds, coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic services, and administer professional care such as catheterization and tube feeding.
  • Staff Development: Participate in planning and executing training and orientation programs.
  • Safety and Sanitation: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and infection control procedures.
  • Supply Functions: Maintain adequate levels of supplies and equipment, and ensure efficient use.
  • Care Planning and Assessment: Review care plans and ensure proper implementation.

Supervisory Requirements:

Administrative authority to carry out assigned duties.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: Nursing degree from an accredited college or approved LPN/LVN program. Active, unrestricted LPN/LVN license.
  • Skills: Ability to read, write, and understand English, basic math skills, and ability to make independent decisions.
  • Certifications: Active LPN/LVN license and current CPR certification.

Physical Demands:

Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday, handle mental and emotional stress, and lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

Work in office and nursing service areas, subject to frequent interruptions and exposure to infectious conditions.
